Tristan Jarry made 37 saves and Henrik Samuelsson scored twice Wednesday as the Edmonton Oil Kings downed the Kamloops Blazers 5-2 in the Western Hockey League. . Curtis Lazar, Cole Benson and Mitch Moroz had the other goals for Edmonton (20-7-5), while Cody Corbett, Keegan Lowe, David Musil and Dylan Wruck each had two assists. Aaron Macklin and Tim Bozon replied for Kamloops (25-8-3), which saw its winning streak snapped at four games. Cole Cheveldave stopped 30 shots in taking the loss. Elsewhere in the WHL it was: Saskatoon 5, Moose Jaw 2; Calgary 2, Red Deer 1; and Kelowna 3, Lethbridge 1. At Edmonton, Lazar opened the scoring for the Oil Kings at 13:31 of the first, finding a gap and cutting into the middle on the power play before lifting a shot over Cheveldave. Macklin tied the score at 13:40 of the second, pouncing on a loose puck in the slot and slipping a shot past Jarry. Edmonton restored its lead at 17:37 on a fortunate bounce. Lowes point shot deflected off the Blazers Sam Grist and right onto the stick of Benson, who made no mistake. The Oil Kings extended their lead to 4-1 as Samuelsson deflected a Musil point blast at 1:48 of the third period before firing a wrist shot past Cheveldave at 7:31. Bozon brought Kamloops back within two at 14:22, but that margin was short-lived as Moroz deflected Corbetts rocket to make it 5-2 Edmonton just 12 seconds later. Blades 5, Warriors 2 At Moose Jaw, Sask., Shane McColgan, Josh Nicholls and Matej Stransky each had a goal and an assist as the Blades (17-14-1) kept their hot streak going be beating the Warriors (12-15-7). --- Hitmen 2, Rebels 1 At Red Deer, Alta., Brooks Macek and Victor Rask scored goals 26 seconds apart in the third period as Calgary (21-7-4) topped the Rebels (19-12-3). --- Rockets 3, Hurricanes 1 At Lethbridge, Alta., Jordan Cooke made 20 saves as Kelowna upended the Hurricanes (16-15-5). PETERSBURG, Fla. . - Few people thought the Vancouver Whitecaps had a chance of pulling off an upset. [url=http://www.falconsofficialteamstore.com/autographed-tony-gonzalez-jersey-un... .ca! Hey Kerry, Ive been watching L.A.s run through the playoffs and it is remarkable what theyve been able to do. My only issue with their game is Dustin Browns embellishments along the way. The seventh-seeded Cornet, who is ranked 73rd, earned her second career title after winning in Budapest, Hungary in 2008 and is now 2-3 in WTA finals. She lost the final in Strasbourg last month. WINNIPEG -- Quarterback Joey Elliott became the new hero of Winnipeg Blue Bomber fans as he led his team crucial win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats, but his head coach says he had a lot of help from his teammates. Elliott had a big second half and threw for 406 yards and a touchdown on Thursday to lead the Bombers to just their second win of the season, 32-25 over Hamilton. While Winnipeg coach Paul LaPolice had praise for Elliotts performance, he said the win was a team effort. "We fought hard and made plays, whether it was offence, defence or special teams," LaPolice said Friday. "I thought our offensive line played one of their better games all year and I thought we were running the ball . . . and certainly Joey made some nice throws and I think it was a combination of all those things." The Bombers are still in the CFLs basement at 2-5, but at least the they can now see the stairs. LaPolice also needed a win to stop some of the grumbling about a possible coaching change, despite taking the team to the Grey Cup last year. "Certainly there were mistakes made also," he said. "We have to learn from those things and again play more consistent football to play and win games, because when you get six turnovers it should be even a bigger margin of victory." Turnovers killed the Tiger-Cats. Hamilton quarterback Henry Burris had three personally. LaPolice and the Bombers know the feeling. "We talked as a defence this week collectively (about) getting more takeaways," he said. "We win when we win the turnover margin, as an organization. Thats how weve done it. "So we were plus six this game and it makes us go from minus eight to minus two. . . We said in the second half of the season thats one of the things were going to correct, now weve got to keep doing it." Stronger play defensively that kept the pressure on Hamiltons offence was certainly a big part of the ggame. [url=http://www.falconsofficialteamstore.com/autographed-osi-umenyiora-jersey-cb... Umenyiora Jersey. . But the 26-year-old Elliott also showed a lot more confidence than might be expected from someone making just his third CFL start. "I think hes been coached well on a lot of these things and I think he trusts his coaching, I think he trusts his ability," LaPolice said. He completed 33 of 43 passes en route to his 406-yard total. By comparison Burris completed 17 of 25 for 368. Elliott threw two or three that came awfully close to being picked off, but Winnipegs strong receiving corps showed its stuff. "One or two throws he should have taken back," LaPolice agreed, adding though that Elliotts style helps him escape being picked, as he did on a throw to Chris Matthews. "The thing he does is he doesnt wait. If somebody was late with that throw, its picked for a touchdown, but he saw it quickly and he threw it." Matthews led Winnipegs deep pool of receivers as he has most of the season with 118 yards and a touchdown. Cory Watson had 105, Clarence Denmark had 77 and Terrence Edwards had 73. It was also a good night for running back Chad Simpson, who had 86 yards on the ground plus a touchdown and another 33 receiving. Elliott took over this week from Alex Brink, who played the first three games after starter Buck Pierce was knocked out of action with a foot injury. Brink managed one win but the coaches decided to give Elliott a shot. "Theres a reason you keep guys around because you like what they do and we always felt that he has an ability to make decisions quickly," LaPolice said. LaPolice isnt the kind of coach who goes off emotionally on either end of the spectrum, but he was definitely pleased with a game that could have gone south in the final minutes when Hamilton tied the score. "Hey, well take a win. . . They scored at the end of the game and we responded and went the length of the field, and that doesnt happen often," he said. ' ' '
