CALGARY -- For the second time in five days, Sean Monahan scored the game-deciding goal in a shootout to lead the Calgary Flames to victory. cheap jerseys . After scoring in the eighth round on Monday to earn Calgary a 5-4 shootout win on the road over the Winnipeg Jets, Monahan duplicated that feat in the sixth round on Friday at home as the Flames edged the Florida Panthers 4-3. "Weve got to dig deep," said Monahan, who has eight goals and six assists in 23 games so far in his rookie season with the Flames. "Were trying to do whatever we can to get points right now. It feels good. We want wins. I guess putting those in helped the team get some wins." Monahan snapped a hard shot just inside the far post over the right pad of Florida goalie Tim Thomas to earn Calgary the win. "Just kind of outwaiting the goalie and shooting hard," said Monahan of the key to his success in the shootout. "Its something I tried to do and it worked." Joe Colborne had a goal and an assist in regulation for his first multiple-point game with the Flames (8-11-4) since being acquired from the Toronto Maple Leafs in the off-season for a fourth round pick in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft. "Its nice just to get a few wins in here and lighten the mood a bit," said Colborne, who also scored on Wednesday during Calgarys 2-1 overtime loss at home to the Columbus Blue Jackets. "We have obviously a very proud group in here. Its nice to have some music going in the dressing room and some guys who are smiling again. Its just a big team win." Sven Baertschi and Blair Jones also scored for the Flames, who have now collected points in three straight games going 2-0-1 in that span. Playing in his sixth straight game in net for the Flames, Reto Berra stopped 23 shots to improve his record to 3-4-2 in his first NHL season. Berra also stopped Florida forward Nick Bjugstad in the sixth round of the shootout to preserve the victory after Monahan scored. Tom Gilbert, Jimmy Hayes and Marcel Goc scored for the Panthers (6-13-5), who finished up their five-game road trip with a 2-2-1 record. "Ive got to be real proud of the way the guys reacted," said Florida coach Peter Horachek. "Good road trip. From that standpoint, going .500 and all tough games, I think thats really positive." Thomas, who played in his eighth straight game for the Panthers, finished with 21 saves. "We showed a lot of character and a lot of good things, which weve done in the past and we did it again," said Thomas, who was hoping to outduel Berra in the shootout after the Panthers rallied from a 3-1 deficit with two goals in the third period. "When I see the team responding and stepping up like that I want them to get the two points." Neither team mustered a shot on net until 5:41 of the first period when Thomas easily stopped and smothered a point blast off the stick of Calgary defenceman Chris Butler. The Panthers took a 1-0 lead at 15:14 of the first on Gilberts first goal of the season. Bjugstad won the faceoff back to Gilbert, who let go a shot from the point through traffic that fooled Berra and found the back of the net. At the nine-minute mark of the second period, Colborne scored his third of the season to pull the Flames even. Lance Bouma did a good job of forechecking to force Florida defenceman Mike Mottau to turn the puck over. The puck bounced off of Calgary forward David Jones right to Colborne, who wired a perfect shot from the slot into the top corner over the outstretched glove of Thomas. "It was more of a reaction," Colborne said. "When you get a puck in that area, you dont have much time and I just got it on my stick and tried to get it in the top corner." Baertschi then broke out of a 15-game goal-less drought when he scored a power-play goal at 12:04 of the second to put the Flames up 2-1. Thomas gave up a big rebound of a point shot by T.J. Brodie that was tipped by Colborne and the puck bounced right to Baertschi, who swatted it into the back of the net. Jones gave Calgary a 3-1 lead at 5:40 of the third when he converted a feed from Bouma for his first goal in his first game of the season with the Flames. Just 82 seconds later, Hayes took advantage of a turnover by Berra to score his first of the season to pull the Panthers within a goal. Berra ventured out of his net in an attempt to poke check the puck away from Florida forward Shawn Matthias, but it went right to Hayes, who shot it into a wide-open net. Goc scored at 14:01 of the third to force overtime when he outwaited Berra before snapping a shot that snuck under the Calgary goalies left arm and into the net. "They seem to respond every time," Horachek said. "We wanted to come back out in the third and do what we have to do and they scored and (we) didnt drop their heads." Notes: Prior to being recalled from the AHL on Thursday, Blair Jones put up eight goals and 13 assists for a team-leading 21 points in 16 games with the Abbotsford Heat. a T.J. The skier from Gatineau, Que., captured the bronze medal in a mens freestyle aerials World Cup event on an artificial ramp Saturday. . -- Both Alberta rinks and Quebecs mens rink remained unbeaten with victories in Draw 6 on Sunday at the M&M Meat Shops Canadian juniors curling championship. CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Top-ranked Serena Williams ended a long and successful day for the Williams family as she and sister Venus both won twice Friday to reach the Family Circle Cup semifinals and set up their first sibling showdown since 2009. Serena won her 13th straight match by defeating sixth-seeded Lucie Safarova, 6-4, 6-1. Earlier, she topped two-time NCAA doubles champ Mallory Burdette in a third-round match moved due to Thursdays 7 1/2-hour rain delay. Venus also had double duty, rallying past Varvara Lepchenko in three sets before ousting 18-year-old Madison Keys later on Billie Jean King Court. The Williams sisters next go for a spot in the finals Saturday. They havent met in a tournament since the 2009 Tour Championships in Qatar. Serena holds a 13-10 lead, although theyre 1-1 on clay. "For the record, weve never played two matches on the same day," Serena told the stadium crowd. "You guys had a real treat." They surely did. The sisters were the first four matches on the stadium court -- and they only dropped one set combined. "I was thinking it was a quadruple-header," Venus said with a laugh. "I dont know if thats ever going to happen again." The excitement continues Saturday when the sisters go against each for a 24th time in their stellar careers at a venue where both have enjoyed championship moments. Serena is seeking her third Family Circle title after wins in her last two appearances here in 2008 and 2012. Venus took this title in 2004 and scored the clinching points last September when the Washington Kastles took the World Team Tennis crown at Family Circle Tennis Center. Serena, 31, comes in as world No. 1 having won Wimbledon, the Olympics and the U.S. Open since capturing last years Family Circle. She added to her haul with a sixth Sony Open crown, rallying past Maria Sharapova for her 48th career WTA crown. Venus has struggled with illness and injury in recent years. She took some six months off after being diagnosed with Sjrogens Syndrome, an autoimmune disease, and withdrew from the Sony last month because of a sore back. Still, Serena is wary of her sisters game and desire to win. "When I play Venus, its never an easy opponent," she said. "Shes my toughest opponent Ive ever played, and I think shes beaten me the most of any player." Venus, wholl turn 33 in June, has lost four straight to Serena since a victory in Dubai in 2009. The older Williams hasnt won a major since Wimbledon in 2008. "The last years have been challenging and at some points difficult," Venus said. "But I think in both of our heads, we never gave up on tennis or ourselves." Theres another side of the bracket, too. Jelena Jankovic won her 500th career match with a straight sets win over Canadian Eugenie Bouchard. Bouchard, of Westmount, Que., was playing in her firsst WTA Premier quarter-final. [url=http://www.chinawholesalenflcheapjerseys.com/Nike-nfl-jerseys_Kansas-city-c... Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys. The 19-year-old played five matches to reach the final eight after qualifying to get into the main draw. Despite the loss, Bouchard will collect 132 ranking points which will allow her to crack the top-100 when the new WTA rankings are released on Monday. She will also earn direct entry into the main draw at the French Open which will be her first Grand Slam main draw appearance. "I am happy I was able to come here (to Charleston) and accomplish those goals," said Bouchard. "I know I can play at this level. Now I have to do it consistently week in and week out. I am going to go home, rest up and get back to practice next week to work on getting better." "In order to have 500 wins, I think you have to have a pretty long career, be pretty consistent," the 28-year-old Jankovic said. Jankovic will face Switzerlands Stephanie Voegele in the semifinals. Voegele rallied from a set down to defeat second-seeded Carolina Wozniacki 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 and send the 2011 Family Circle winner up the road to Augusta National -- shes scheduled to cheer on boyfriend Rory McIlroy at next week the Masters -- earlier than planned. The sisters were put in the unusual spot of doubling up when the rain postponed much of Thursdays schedule. Venus Williams looked her most comfortable of the week against the power-hitting Keys. Williams had needed a third set to pull out both her previous matches and it looked as though it might happen again when Keys was a point away from moving in front 4-1 in the second set. But Williams was able to rally to win five of the final six games, securing her second semifinal berth in four tournaments this year. Venus Williams seemed to have her first match under control, ahead 6-2 and 3-0 in the second set. Lapchenko rallied to win seven of the next eight games while a chilly drizzle fell in the middle of the second set and took a 1-0 lead in the decisive set. Thats when Williams again found her game and pulled away by winning six of the final seven games. Venus Williams returned to clay-court action at the 2012 Family Circle after an absence of about two years on the surface. A bout with the autoimmune disease Sjogrens Syndrome kept her from the game for almost six months between the 2011 U.S. Open and the 2012 Sony Open. She reached the quarterfinals here a year ago, falling to Samantha Stosur to prevent an all-Williams semi that time. Safarova, who lost to Serena Williams, 6-0, 6-1 in the 2012 finals, led in the opening set and had a point to go up 5-2. Instead, Williams rallied back from deuce and won the final four games to take the set. Williams big serves and power game smothered Safarova after that. Williams served a 106 mph ace to set up match point, then chased down Safarovas drop shot to take the match -- and give herself a well-earned rest. ' ' '
