LENZERHEIDE, Switzerland - About four weeks after winning Olympic gold in the super-G, Anna Fenninger completed her run to the overall World Cup title Thursday by taking second in the same event. The 24-year-old Austrian finished behind Lara Gut at the World Cup Finals but built an unassailable 215-point lead over her Swiss friend with two races remaining this weekend. "Its just, Wow," said Fenninger, the first Austrian woman to win the overall title since Nicole Hosp in 2007. "It means that you are the best skier in the world over the whole season." Fenningers path to Alpine skiings most prestigious honour was made easier when her closest challenger, Maria Hoefl-Riesch of Germany, sustained season-ending injuries after crashing in the downhill on Wednesday. Still, her consistency over a tiring five-month season earned her the honour of becoming the 27th different womens champion since the World Cup launched in 1967. "You cant win the overall because you are lucky," Gut said. "You win the overall because you are the best." Fenninger carried the momentum of her Olympic exploits, including silver in giant slalom, into a surge of points in recent weeks. Her only slip since Sochi was a sixth-place finish in the final downhill on Wednesday, racing minutes before Hoefl-Riesch crashed. "I was so nervous yesterday it was not normal," Fenninger said. "But I learned from yesterday for today and Im stoked that I can show my good skiing again." Tina Weirather of Liechtenstein, who was second in the overall standings heading to Sochi, also was lost for the season when she crashed in training on the Olympic downhill course. Starting just before Gut on Thursday, Fenninger punched the air with her right fist after crossing the line, then blew a kiss to the television camera while waiting for her rival in the finish area. Gut then finished in 1 minute, 17.14 seconds on the sunbathed course, 0.61 seconds faster than Fenninger. Tina Maze of Slovenia, the defending overall champion, trailed Gut by 0.95 in third. Marie-Michele Gagnon of Lac-Etchemin, Que., did not finish. Guts victory, her second straight after her downhill success, clinched the season-long super-G title, a first career World Cup trophy for the 22-year-old Swiss racer. Gut looked up at the giant screens, pumped both fists and basked in a loud ovation from a 5,000-strong home crowd. "Its cool," the 22-year-old Gut said. "Winning it at home and finally bringing a (crystal) globe back to Switzerland, its amazing." Guts seventh World Cup race win this season is the most on the womens circuit, and leaves her third overall. Fenninger, however, won three giant slaloms — including back-to-back races last week in Are, Sweden — and racked up podium finishes. She finished second in the downhill standings, behind Hoefl-Riesch, and in super-G. She also stands second in the giant slalom race behind Jessica Lindell-Vikarby of Sweden. The final GS race closes the season on Sunday. By then, Austria hopes Marcel Hirscher will have clinched the mens overall title to give the Alpine nation its first double success since 2002. Alex Delvecchio Jersey .ca. Mr. Fraser, I think everyone would like to hear your opinion on what sort of suspension Zac Rinaldo should get. His comment after the game of I changed the whole game, man. Terry Sawchuk Jersey . Bach, a 59-year-old German lawyer, was elected Tuesday as president of the International Olympic Committee. He succeeds Jacques Rogge, who stepped down after 12 years. Bach, the longtime favourite, defeated five candidates in a secret ballot for the most influential job in international sports, keeping the presidency in European hands. http://www.redwingshockeyauthentic.com/dylan-larkin-jersey/.com) - Thursday marks the official debut of a new dirt racing surface at Meydan Racecourse. Evgeny Svechnikov Jersey .During the week, McCoy told reporters he respected Hoyer for his intelligence, athleticism and how he conducts himself on and off the field. This wasnt an act, some attempt at psyching out Hoyer.AUBURN HILLS, Mich. - LaMarcus Aldridge might never become the leading scorer in Portland Trail Blazers history.Hes got a real chance to put second place out of reach, though.Aldridge scored 23 points in Portlands 98-86 victory over the Detroit Pistons on Tuesday night, including a crucial pair of baskets to end Detroits fourth-quarter rally. He now has 11,347 career points, 17 more than Terry Porter. Its a big honour to pass Terry, because he was a big-time player for this franchise and a big-time player in this league, Aldridge said after helping Portland win its fifth straight. He means a lot to the city of Portland, and to pass him means that all the hard work is paying off.It also means Ive been with this franchise for a long time.At 29, Aldridge isnt likely to pick up the 6,693 points he needs to catch Clyde Drexler, so hes settling on short-term goals.Right now, Im just focused on getting these wins on the road, he said. This has been one of our tougher road trips, and the next one is tough as well.Detroit lost its 13th in a row, one short of the franchise record set in 1979-80 and tied in 1993-94. Those were both aging teams, with the second group marking the end of the Bad Boys era at the Palace. The current Pistons havent had a winning season or won a playoff game in seven years.Im not a patient, understanding man, and Ive never been in this situation, said Pistons coach Stan Van Gundy, who has never had a losing season or missed the playoffs in his NBA coaching career. But I have to try to be a little understanding, because most of these guys have never been in a situation like this, either. Confidence is low right now and getting worse every game.Greg Monroe had 22 points and 10 rebounds for Detroit, which only got 40 points from its starting lineup.Weve got two days off, and a lot of assessing to do, Van Gundy said. We need some serious adjustments into the way we play and who we play. When youve lost 13 in a row, everyone and everything is on the table.dddddddddddd.The pattern of the game was established early, as Portland was able to convert most possessions into good scoring opportunities, while the Pistons struggled to finish at the rim. Detroit, one of the worst teams at scoring inside despite the presence of Josh Smith, Andre Drummond and Monroe, shot 44 per cent in the paint in the first half.Portlands defence slowly took control in the third quarter, holding the Pistons to 22 per cent shooting (4 for 18) and expanding the lead to as many as 17 points. It was 76-62 going into the fourth, but the Pistons finally put together enough baskets and stops to make a run.Monroes layup pulled Detroit within 81-77 with 7:12 to play, but Aldridge hit two straight baskets and Damian Lillard rattled home a 3-pointer to keep the Pistons at bay.It was disappointing that Detroit made that run at the end, but I liked the way we finished the game and took care of our business, said Trail Blazers coach Terry Stotts.TIP-INSBLAZERS: Portland has beaten Detroit four straight times, and has won in five of its last seven visits to the Palace.PISTONS: Detroit had three previous 13-game losing streaks, including one each in the 1979-80 and 1993-94 seasons after the 14-game skid. The third came in 2009-10, which also featured an 11-game losing streak. ... Jodie Meeks, who has missed the entire season with a stress fracture in his back, is expected to resume practicing this week and could play on Detroits upcoming three-game road trip.COMING HOME: Chris Kaman, a native Michigander who played his college basketball at Central Michigan, was 6 of 8 in the first half for 12 points. He finished with 14 points in 21 minutes.Right now, were letting teams stick around a little too much, but were digging the games out at the end, he said.UP NEXTBLAZERS: Host Minnesota on Wednesday.PISTONS: Visit Phoenix on Friday.
