So there's really not where I look at it as though I have to see a whole lot of him defensively to see he can play a lot of different positions."

Rich Sauveur helped guide Triple-A Pawtucket to Governors' Cup title in the International League this season.


Pawtucket's pitching coach was invited, along with Arnie Beyeler, to join the major-league coaching staff for the final two weeks of the Red Sox season.


Sauveur has coached in the minor leagues for 10 years, including the last five with the PawSox.


"I want to be a pitching coach in the big leagues," he said. "I've wanted that ever since 2000 when I retired. I did not put any stipulation on how many years it was going to take me to get here. I've enjoyed my five years at Triple-A. My goal is to be a pitching coach in the big leagues."


Sauveur was not a candidate for the pitching-coach job last offseason. However, if the Red Sox make changes to their coaching staff after the season ends, they'll be asking their pitchers to get to know their fifth pitching coach in the span of four years.
