:~ The 1977 NBA Playoffs featured the leagues best 12 teams vying for the honors of the top team in the league. The playoffs in that season featured a number of upsets by the team that would go on to win the NBA Championship.
The Western and Eastern Conferences each featured the top 6 teams from their respective conferences. The top seeded team in the Western Conference was the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers were followed by Denver St... Adams Thunder Jersey , Portland, Golden State, Detroit and Chicago for the rest of the playoff spots in the conference.
The top team in the Eastern Conference was the Philadelphia 76ers. The 76ers were followed by Houston, Washington, Boston, San Antonio and Cleveland.
The first round of the playoffs featured the matchups of: Golden State vs. Detroit Shaw... Kemp Thunder Jersey , Portland vs. Chicago, Boston vs. San Antonio and Washington vs. Cleveland. These matchups were decided through a best of 3 games series. While it is sometimes easier for a lower seeded team to steal a short series, there were no upsets in the first round of the playoffs.
The Warriors took the Pistons in 3 games. The Trail Blazers took out the Bulls in the 3 games. The Celtics swept the Spurs to advance and Washington took out Cleveland in 3 games.
The Lakers would face Golden State in the second round of the playoffs. This was a surprisingly tough series. Despite being the top seeded team, the Warriors gave the Lakers almost all they could handle. The Lakers ended up coming out on top, but it took 7 games to win the series. In the other Western Conference game the Trail Blazers won the series in 6 games, providing the first upset of the playoffs.
The Eastern Conference 2nd round was similar to the Western Conferences round. The 76ers were challenged thoroughly by the Celtics before winning the 7th game of the series to advance. Houston beat Washington in 6 games to move their way towards the conference finals.
The Western Conference Finals featured a dramatic upset. While the Lakers struggled in the previous round Ray Allen Thunder Jersey , nobody expected them to fall so easily in the conference finals against the Blazers. Portland beat down Los Angeles and managed a 4 game sweep to win the series. With this win the Trail Blazers would advance on to the NBA Finals for a shot at a championship.
The 76ers and Houston had a much better series than the Lakers and Blazers, but Houston was not able to challenge the 76ers enough to take it. They did manage to sneak 2 games away from Philadelphia, but in the end it was the 76ers that would go to the Finals to take on Portland.
The Blazers clearly had some momentum going for them into this final series and they kept it rolling in the finals. They managed to take out the 76ers in just 6 games to become the NBA Champions of 1977. This was no easy series for Portland, however. They started down 0-2 in the series and came back to win the next 4 games. A couple of those wins came in dominating fashion.
On a recent trip to St. Petersburg I was amazed at how truly beautiful the city is and how very much there is to do and see there.
The city its self has a great skyline with dramatic new buildings rising up from it and the old standards like the Pier, which is an eye catching inverted pyramid. I say it's an old standard because the Pier has been a fixture of the downtown area, in its current form since 1973 and in some form since 1889. Local festivals are still held there and for a long time community were dances too. You can fish Mi... McGary Thunder Jersey , shop, dine there's even a small patch of beach to have fun on and an aquarium but the best part is; it's in the middle of downtown so it's fun and convenient.
Tampa Bay itself is also an integral part of life in St. Petersburg. Not only is it a beautiful body of water but it to impacts life in St. Petersburg on a daily basis. Fishing in the bay adds to the local economy and you have to cross the Bay at some point if you want to get around in St. Petersburg but there is also a lot of fun to be had on the Bay. Sail boaters in particular like it because it is very big yet protected which makes it a great place for the many regattas and races that are held there annually.
Also, spanning the Bay is one of the modern wonders in America, if not the world - The Sunshine Skyway Bridge. As we were going over the bridge I was impressed by its size, at over five miles long it is the longest cable-stayed main span suspension bridge in America. Any day of the week there are people all over the old bridge, right beside the new one Ky... Singler Thunder Jersey , fishing or taking pictures or simply standing staring over the side at whatever is passing by be it a boat, pod of dolphin or a sting ray. It's too inviting not to stop and have a look around which is exactly what we did. We spent an hour just watching people, taking pictures and looking for sealife.
If you're a sports fan St. Petersburg is a great place too. The Tampa Bay Devil Rays baseball team have had there home stadium, Tropicana Field, in St. Petersburg since 1998. Tropicana Field has also served as the host stadium for the St. Petersburg Bowl, an NCAA-sanctioned college football bowl game since December 2008. The St. Pete Times Forum is a sports and entertainment center that hosts over 150 events including concerts Jo... Huestis Thunder Jersey , ice shows and the circus. The Forum is also the home to the Tampa Bay Lightning and the Tampa Bay Storm, an Arena Football League. It hosts numerous NCAA events such as the Men's Basketball Quarterfinals and the Women's Final Four.
