ST. jerseys from china . PAUL, Minn. -- No lead feels safe for the offensively challenged Minnesota Wild these days. But for one game, at least, Niklas Backstrom made his teams advantage look commanding. Backstrom made a career-high 48 saves for his fourth shutout of the season to lead the Wild to a 2-0 win over the Boston Bruins on Sunday. Matt Cullen and newly recalled Chad Rau each scored second-period goals for Minnesota, which won for only the second time this month, and Backstrom did the rest to frustrate the Bruins. Boston outworked Minnesota early on offence and held the Wild to only three shots in the final period. But Backstrom stopped 22 shots in the third period, earning the 26th shutout of his career. Minnesotas previous victory came Feb. 2 at Colorado. Minnesota went winless in its next seven games, scoring only nine goals during that span. "Winning, thats fun, thats why you play, and we havent had a lot of wins in the last couple of months, so sure its been tough," Backstrom said. "Hopefully this is a good start for something new. Well try to enjoy this. We learned the last couple of months, you cant take anything for granted." Backstroms save total was the highest by a Wild goalie in a shutout. Not bad considering he was 0-3-2 in his past five starts. "Its almost a little unfair on those guys. Its the one position where youre solely judged on your wins and losses, as opposed to the rest of the guys," Wild coach Mike Yeo said. Tim Thomas made 27 saves for the Bruins, who have lost six of 10 and were shut out for the fourth time in nine games. "Like weve told the guys, we can either be bitter or better, and lets work on getting better here," Boston coach Claude Julien said. "And thats what were going to try to do here in the next few days." Earlier in the day, Rau was called up from Minnesotas AHL affiliate in Houston to fill in for Warren Peters, who received a one-game suspension for cross-checking David Backes in St. Louis on Saturday night. The Twin Cities native responded by scoring his second goal of the season to put the Wild up 1-0 in the second period on a wrist shot from the left circle. Cullen, another Minnesota native, added a power-play score five minutes later for his first goal since Jan. 10. "Its been a tough stretch and its important that we dont sit here and pat ourselves on the back too much," Cullen said. "Certainly well enjoy it now. Were happy and were proud of the way we played, but we have to continue to build. We have an uphill climb ahead of us." It was Minnesotas first two-goal lead since Jan. 31 when it led Nashville 3-0 before losing 5-4. This time, though, the Wild held on thanks to some brilliant saves by Backstrom. Minnesota doubled its shot total from the previous night against St. Louis -- a season-low 13 -- by the end of the second period and finished with 29. The Bruins have lost consecutive road games for the first time this season. The defending Stanley Cup champions are 1-10-1 in 12 games against the Wild. Thomas said the team cant afford to get ahead of itself in trying to get back to winning consistently. "I think you approach it the same way you do a winning streak, just take it one game at a time," Thomas said. "When we were rattling off on that roll in November and December, we werent thinking about that big picture. Thats more for people that arent playing the game that have the leisure to think of stuff like that." Notes: Cullen hadnt scored a power-play goal since Nov. 15. ... Hudson allowed one run in six-plus innings, Stephen Drew had three hits and two RBIs, and Arizona beat the struggling Florida Marlins 5-1.BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The rain wouldnt go away, and neither would a couple of Tom Lehmans challengers. Lehman withstood both to win his second straight Regions Tradition, finishing the Champions Tour major with a 4-under 68 on Sunday to take a two-stroke victory. Lehman overcame a near-constant drizzle and occasional heavy rain at Shoal Creek -- plus hard charges by Bernhard Langer and Chien Soon Lu -- for his sixth Champions Tour victory. He finished at 14-under 274. Langer and Lu shot 66 to tie for second. Lehman, the former British Open champion who shot in the 60s all four days, joined Jack Nicklaus, Gil Morgan and Fred Funk as the only players to win the Tradition multiple times. Lehman played the final hole with his cap turned backward under a steady rain. "I dont mind any condition other than rain," Lehman said. "I dont like playing in rain. It makes me really uncomfortable. I just feel like I lose the rhythm of my swing. "Today was a real test of perseverance, just trying to move the ball forward. Dont try to bite off too much, dont get too aggressive. Just play shots I know I can hit." Hes the first player to repeat in a senior major championship since Allen Doyle won the U.S. Senior Open in 2005 and 2006. Gil Morgan in 1997 is the only other Tradition winner to post four rounds in the 60s. Lehman won $335,000 for his first victory since last years Regions Tradition, a 13-month drought. Lehman is the 11th winner of 2012. After beating Peter Senior in a playoff last year, Lehman didnt have to sweat this one out nearly as much on a brisk day that began with an early two-tee start and ended with storms closing in. Players were allowed to lift, clean and place the ball because of the conditions. Lehman made a 30-foot birdie putt on No. 7 after Langer briefly tied him at 9 under, pushing his lead to two strokes with a short birdie putt on the par-3 13th hole. Then he salvaged par with a difficult chip and 12-foot putt on the next hole under a downpour. "You dont want to give shots back when youve kind of put it in your pocket," Lehman said. "It really started pouring and that was a really ddifficult putt. cheap jerseys. To two-putt that was a huge momentum keeper. That might have been the biggest putt of the day." He bogeyed No. 17, but that added little drama since he avoided trouble on the 18th. The backward-hat wasnt a fashion statement for his college-student daughters who made the trip. "Im sure they thought it was stupid, but you know what?" Lehman said. "They probably thought I was doing that to be cool or something. The fact of the matter is that when you putt and its raining, the water drips off the bill onto the ball. Its very distracting. The putt that I missed on 17, two drops fell off my hat onto my ball when I was on my backstroke and it really distracted me." Lu, from Taiwan, had four birdies on the final nine holes. Lu was second at last years Montreal Championship and the 2010 Tradition in Oregon and has been third four times. He had fallen back with a triple bogey on the final hole Saturday. Langer, a two-time Masters winner, bogeyed Nos. 8 and 9 after starting 3 under through four holes. He wound up with a seventh top-five finish of the year and took over the Schwab Cup lead but is still seeking his first win. He missed several months last year, including this event, after left thumb surgery. Lehman made too few mistakes to open the door even with that aggressive play. "My goal was to get off to a good start and put pressure on him, to make him win the tournament and not let him have a three- or four-shot lead the whole day," said Langer, who hadnt played at Shoal Creek since the 1990 PGA Championship. "That would be too easy. ... But he responded extremely well to it." Fred Couples closed with a tournament-low 65 and entered the final hole with four straight birdies but still finished four strokes back. Rod Spittle (73) of Niagara Falls, Ont., tied for 21st at 2-under par. Russ Cochran and Bill Glasson, who led after each of the first two rounds, were five shots back. Jeff Sluman and Brad Bryant were six strokes behind. Sluman had eagled the par-5 third for the second straight day to move to 10 under, six of that coming from that hole. cheap jerseys from china ' ' '
