Bostons Tyler Seguin put up three points in 13:25 against Toronto Thursday night, giving him eight points in seven games. I projected a jump from 22 to 40 points for Seguin this season, but that appears to be selling him short. A point-per-game is a lot to ask from a 19-year-old, but 60-plus may be reasonable after this start, especially since Seguin is already playing four minutes more per game than he did as a rookie last season. After one point in his first six games, Boston LW Milan Lucic had three points in 11:11 against the Leafs. It was Lucics lowest total ice time of the season and the only time that Lucic played less in a game last year was October 19th against Washington, when he also had a major penalty, so Lucic may have suffered an injury. Lucic is playing less this year (15:31) than he did last year (16:35) for the Bruins. Another player whose ice time is down is Capitals superstar Alexander Ovechkin, who scored two goals against Philadelphia Thursday. Ovechkin has played under 19 minutes in four straight games. The last time he went at least four games under 19 minutes? The first five games of his NHL career in October, 2005. FLYING LOWAt the other end of the spectrum, Flyers rookie Matt Read played 21:32 in the loss to the Capitals, while Claude Giroux played 16:12 and Jaromir Jagr played 13:32, an odd distribution of ice time in a game that was a one-goal game through the first two periods. Flyers LW James van Riemsdyk recorded seven shots in 12:38 against Washington, his most shots in lowest ice time this season. Flyers coach Peter Laviolette shook up the lines against Washington and, given the results, will be making more changes to find combinations that work. Since coming over from Los Angeles in the offseason, Wayne Simmonds has seen his ice time go up significantly. Hes averaging a career-high 15:55 thus far, and has played more than 17 minutes per game in each of the last three games. AVSMatt Duchene played 16:59 against Chicago Thursday and currently ranks sixth among Colorado forwards with 16:33 of ice time per game, behind checkers Daniel Winnik, Ryan OReilly and rookie Gabriel Landeskog. HURTING HABSMontreals poor start has hit most everyone in the lineup, but notably newcomer Erik Cole, who has one point and a minus-2 rating in six games, while recording 1.33 shots per game. He played just 13:47 Thursday against Pittsburgh. After all the talk about Scott Gomez preparing to rebound from last years debacle of a season, he has one point through six games and left Thursdays game with an upper body injury. Perhaps this could be an opportunity for David Desharnais to play a more significant role, but he played a season-low 16:04 after a minus-2 rating last night. SENS SCORERSWhile expectations are understandably modest for any Ottawa Senators this season, the top line of Jason Spezza, Colin Greening and Milan Michalek is producing, putting up 10 goals and 20 points through seven games. Theyve also combined for a minus-6 rating, too, so theres both good and bad to be sure, but Michalek seems like a good value play while hes healthy. KANEJets LW Evander Kane is playing 13:20 per game, putting him between Kyle Wellwood and Jim Slater among Jets forwards. Kane hasnt recorded a point through the first five games, but hes also spent much of his time on the wing with rookie Mark Scheifele and thats not the kind of opportunity that Kane needs if hes going to continue his career ascent. ENNISAlso scoreless through six games, Buffalo LW Tyler Ennis was bumped to a line with Derek Roy and Drew Stafford against Florida on Thursday. Ennis ice time has been down this year, but 15:53 against the Panthers was his most since opening night. SCANDELLAWild D Marco Scandella played a career-high 25:00 against Edmonton Thursday. He sees time on the second power play unit, so he could be one to watch, even though he has just one point in seven games so far. POTTERHe may not have fantasy value, but 27-year-old Corey Potter has a chance to stick on the Edmonton blueline after playing eight games with the Rangers and one with Pittsburgh over the last three seasons. Potter played a career-high 23:26 against Minnesota on Thursday. REPPING THE CISEvery so often, a player reaches the NHL after coming out of a Canadian University program and Thursday night was the NHL debut for Bracken Kearns, a 30-year-old who played four years at the University of Calgary (scoring no goals and eight assists in 26 games as a freshman in 2001-2002). He may not be long for the league, having played just 6:30 in his debut, but it was a well-earned opportunity after playing in seven minor-league cities over the last six seasons. Billy Slater and Brett Morris both crossed twice and Cooper Cronk added the other try as the Kangaroos produced a near-flawless performance at Old Trafford to win the trophy for the 10th time in 14 editions. New Zealand forward Sonny Bill Williams was bidding to become the first player to win World Cups in both rugby codes but his subdued performance was summed up when his pass was intercepted in the lead-up to Australias final try, a length-of-the-field score finished off by Morris. The Flyers host the New York Rangers at the Wells Fargo Center in Game 4 of their Best-of-Seven series. The Rangers currently hold a 2-1 series advantage. Masons return was announced by the team through its official Twitter account Thursday afternoon. The netminder has been out since April 12 with an undisclosed upper-body injury. He was knocked over and hit his head on the ice in the Flyeers second-last game of the season, versus the Pittsburgh Penguins.dddddddddddd. Ray Emery has started for the Flyers in Masons absence with Cal Heeter serving as back-up. In 61 games this season, the 25-year-old Mason posted a 33-18-7 record with a 2.50 goals-against average and a .917 save percentage. Emery has posted a 1-2 record so far in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a 3.49 goals-against average an an .888 save percentage. ' ' '
