When head coach John Hufnagel announced his decision on Tuesday to start Drew Tate at quarterback when the Calgary Stampeders host the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Sundays Western Semi-Final, two old sayings came to mind that sum up the schools of thought in such a dilemma. . The first adage that any pro athlete will tell you is, You should never lose your starting job due to injury. Translation: Start Drew Tate. The second saying that many pro coaches will tell you is, You gotta dance with the one that brung ya. Translation: Start Kevin Glenn. Which one should rule the day in this instance? Who would you start at quarterback for the Stampeders - Drew Tate or Kevin Glenn? If we backtrack to the end of last season, Drew Tate impressed enough down the stretch that those in the Stampeders organization decided to hand the reins to him and deal fan favourite and veteran Henry Burris to the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Certainly, not a decision that was taken lightly. So Tate comes into this season as the starter with Kevin Glenn, acquired from the Tiger-Cats in the deal, serving as the veteran backup. But a dislocated shoulder suffered in Week 2 and the subsequent surgery to repair the damage put Tate on the sidelines for a long stretch. Up steps Glenn, who led the Stampeders to a 9-5 record in Tates absence, throwing for 4,220 yards and 25 touchdowns and leading the Stampeders to a second-place finish in the West. It appeared Tate was out for the rest of the regular season but he returned to play in parts of the final two games, giving Hufnagel two viable options for the playoffs. While Tate is closer to a rookie than a veteran when it comes to playoffs, he was the de facto starter in Week 1 and the reason Burris was traded away. If he didnt start, would it damage his confidence down the road? Glenn has been there, done that in the CFL but is he best used as a weapon off the bench or a veteran presence for Tate on the sidelines? Hufnagel has decided to go with Tate to start Sundays game, subscribing to the first saying of giving the starter his job back when hes healthy. But how many Stampeders fans would feel more comfortable bringing Glenn to the dance? Who would you start at quarterback for the Stampeders - Drew Tate or Kevin Glenn? As always, its Your! Call. Kuroda pitched a two-hitter and the Yankees got consecutive homers from Nick Swisher and Mark Teixeira in a 3-0 victory over the Texas Rangers on Tuesday night. . Tsonga hasnt fared well at his native Grand Slam as a pair of fourth-round appearances are his best results in four previous visits. . A person familiar with the talks said the Red Sox and Pirates are close to completing a trade that would send All-Star closer Joel Hanrahan to Boston for a handful of prospects.NEW ORLEANS -- The NFL asked a U.S. District Court judge on Friday to dismiss Jonathan Vilmas motion seeking to have his season-long suspension overturned. The Saints linebacker is scheduled to have a hearing on Thursday. But the NFL wants the case dismissed because the collective bargaining agreement reached last August to end the lockout gives Commissioner Roger Goodell the authority to punish players for "conduct detrimental" to the NFL. Vilma and Saints coach Sean Payton have been suspended for the 2012 season for their roles in the bounty program the NFL says went on for three seasons. The NFL also states that Vilma and three other players suspended refused to defend themselves during the appeals process. Saints defensive end Will Smith is suspended for four games, current Packers DE Anthony Hargrove got eight games, and current Browns linebacker Scott Fujita is out for three games. "By refusing to participate in the merits of the CBA appeal process ... the NFLPA and Mr. [url=http://www.lionsofficialteamstore.com/autographed-bill-bentley-jersey-ek-81... Bentley Jersey. Vilma have failed to exhaust the dispute resolution procedures available to them," the NFLs motion said. "That failure requires dismissal of their actions." Vilma also has filed a defamation lawsuit against Goodell. Earlier this week, soon after Vilma filed his motion for dismissal of the suspension, Saints interim coach Joe Vitt --who will serve a six-game suspension when the season begins -- also filed an affidavit with the court in support of Vilmas request. Vitt, who did not fight his suspension imposed by Goodell, called the bounty program "nonexistent" in the affidavit. Vitt said he wanted "to refute that the Saints ever had a bounty program or that any member of our defence, including Mr. Vilma, ever placed a bounty on an opposing player or set out to injure anyone or to encourage any other Saints player to injure anyone." The NFL insists that all discipline in the bounties case falls under Goodells jurisdiction as part of the CBA. ' ' '
