TORONTO -- John Gibbons staff is taking shape as the Toronto Blue Jays filled five of its coaching positions on Monday. DeMarlo Hale joins the Blue Jays as bench coach, Chad Mottola will serve as hitting coach, Dwayne Murphy will act as first base and outfield coach, Luis Rivera will move to third-base coach and Pete Walker moves from the bullpen to serve as pitching coach. The Blue Jays still need to find a bullpen coach to replace Walker. Hale served as third-base coach in Baltimore last season. He began his coaching career in the Red Sox organization in 1992 and has coached 11 seasons in the majors with Texas, Boston and Baltimore. Mottola has been promoted to the majors after spending the last three seasons as hitting coach with the triple-A Las Vegas 51s. He began his coaching career in 2008 as hitting coach for the Gulf Coast Blue Jays, moved to roving minor league hitting coach in 2009 before joining Las Vegas for three seasons. Murphy returns for his sixth consecutive season with the Jays, and his 10th overall in the organization. He spent the last two seasons as hitting coach. Rivera has spent the last two seasons as coaching assistant, where he worked with players prior to the game before moving to the stands and acting as a scout. Rivera joined the organization as manager of the double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats in 2010. Walker spent parts of eight seasons pitching in the major leagues, including four with the Blue Jays, where Gibbons served as both his bullpen coach and manager. Kipnis hit a two-run homer in the ninth inning off Nathan and the Indians snapped a five-game losing streak, beating the Texas Rangers 5-4 Thursday night. Nathan (2-4) had converted a club-record 31 straight save chances before the Indians erased a 4-2 deficit in the ninth. The right-handers only other blown save this season came April 11 against Seattle. "Its special any time you do it," Kipnis said. "Youre in the big leagues. Everybody is a big name here." Ezequiel Carrera homered leading off the ninth. Pinch-hitter Russ Canzler singled to bring up Kipnis. The Cleveland second baseman lined a 1-0 pitch several rows deep into the seats in right.
