SHIBERGHAN , Afghanistan, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- Taliban militants overrun Kham Ab district in Afghanistan's northern Jawzjan province along the border with Turkmenistan on Monday, district governor Ahmad Khan said.


"Taliban militants overrun Kham Ab district in the wee hours of today and the district headquarters is in their control at the moment," Khan told Xinhua.

Meantime, a spokesman for security forces in the province, Nasratullah Jamshidi, said that clash for the control of Kham Ab district has been continuing.

Bordering Turkmenistan , Kham Ab district's falling to the Taliban militants will enable the armed group to influence the neighboring Qarqin and Mangajek districts.
